Some parents may be quick to act when it comes to recognizing addiction. This is great, proper regulation of gadgets is exactly how it should be for children. However, there are some cases where parents become too authoritarian when it comes to gadgets. When it comes to addiction, it only is an addiction if it hinders the basic function of one’s life (more information on WHO). Parents should keep an open mind, with this definition in hand, the best way to identify addiction is by social contact and observation.
What parents need to watch out for, is Vulnerability.
Vulnerability is classified as to how vulnerable someone is, in this case, to become addicted to gadgets (Gaming disorder). It is a parent’s responsibility to keep those who aren’t addicted to gadgets stay that way. This is where being authoritative comes in handy. If you keep a good social relationship with their child then it is entirely up to you to spot the differences. Do not monitor, but observe and communicate clearly. Instead of forcing order, explain why that order needs to be done to your child, this gives the bonus of teaching them how to properly handle usage of gadgets.
Keep social contact.
Observe carefully, but not to the point of being forceful.
Respect their rights and trust them.
Do not be like this:

Respect their rights and trust them! Sound easy but that's the hardest part; when they failed to be trusted. :-)
Like this: "observe and communicate clearly". Have to do it often...
i like you highlight : "do communication clearly"; as it's not easy communicating to children- knowing the age distance and characteristics behind it. :-) .
